Vox president Santiago Abascal wrote on Saturday, 17 October 2026, that he would act with “statesmanship” after the left’s Senate coalition. El Mundo quoted his post on X: a message of “calm, responsibility and commitment”, and that Vox would do “what is necessary” so that Spain does not depend on Pedro Sánchez “or any of his henchmen”. Abascal accused the prime minister of being “capable of anything to destroy Spain” and said his party was “capable of anything to save it”. Those are political statements, not a PP–Vox coalition.
On Friday PSOE and parties in Frente Amplio registered “Senado de Progreso” for the 29 November general election. Europa Press, citing the JEC list, said the Senate alliance includes PSOE, Izquierda Unida, Movimiento Sumar, Más Madrid, Coalició Compromís, Chunta Aragonesista and Batzarre, everywhere except the Balearics, the Canaries and Catalonia. El Mundo had earlier written of 47 constituencies. Podemos stays outside the Senate pact, as at Congress.
The deadline to register coalitions closed on Friday night. El Mundo wrote that the right can no longer file a matching Senate coalition, and that PP and Vox had given no sign in recent days that such an option was on the table. Abascal’s message is therefore not the announcement of a joint right-wing list.
On Saturday the JEC recorded nine coalitions: two for Congress only, three for the Senate only and four regional lists for both chambers. The other Senate coalitions are Esquerra Republicana–EH Bildu (Catalonia, the Basque Country, Navarre) and Comuns–Front Ampli (Catalonia). The JEC still has to check formal requirements. Lists are filed between 21 and 26 October; the official gazette publishes them on 28 October; proclamation is on 3 November.
Vox secretary-general Ignacio Garriga called on Saturday in San Lorenzo de El Escorial for a “massive and urgent” mobilisation for 29 November, against Sánchez’s government, not as a pact with the PP. He dismissed as “lies” PSOE claims that a PP–Vox government would cut pensions.
This article describes a political message and a coalition filing. It is not a PP–Vox government deal and not an election result.
