Terms and conditions

RoAdevăr provides access to journalistic content (news, analysis, opinion) and account tools: profile, comments (where enabled), article proposals, editorial collaboration and, after acceptance, publication under moderation.

The Service may be changed, extended or reduced for technical, legal or editorial reasons. We do not promise 100% uninterrupted availability, but we aim for a reasonable standard of operation.

The platform may use several levels of participation, which we call “roles” (the same idea as membership “functions” in organisation tools, in plain language):

• Reader — basic account for authenticated features (e.g. comments under current rules, profile management). • Collaborator — may propose or work on materials, usually without self-publishing alone, under editorial control. • Author — may create and, where rights allow, publish their own materials, with liability for content. • Desk writer (redactor) — editorial contribution with broader rights over their own materials. • Moderator — supports community moderation (e.g. comments), without being a site “admin”.

Internal platform operations roles (e.g. technical or system administration) are not granted at public registration and are not “subscription packages” under these Terms. Publicly, registration typically offers Reader or Author paths; other roles are granted by the newsroom.

You may use the Service for lawful purposes: information, honest editorial contribution, contacting the newsroom. Prohibited: illegal activity, cyber-attacks, unauthorised system probing, spam, malware, harassment, hate speech, defamation, copyright infringement, disguised advertising, using someone else’s account and bypassing security or identity verification.

Detailed ethical principles (accuracy, political independence, conduct) are in Rules and commitments; breaches may justify moderation or suspension under these Terms.

You are responsible for the confidentiality of login credentials and for actions under the account. You must provide reasonably accurate registration data. One account per person is the rule; multiple accounts to evade bans or moderation are prohibited.

You may request account closure; RoAdevăr may apply soft-delete (deactivation with limited retention) as described on GDPR — retention, without repeating time matrices here.

You must be at least 16 to hold an account (or the minimum age required by applicable digital-consent law). If you act for an organisation, you declare you are authorised. Accounts that fail the age requirement may be refused or closed.

Some actions (publishing, commenting as a verified user, contribution panels, abuse prevention) may require identity verification. It is not pointless bureaucracy: we offer a role on a public information platform with visibility and potential impact, so we must know — within the law — who acts behind the account, reduce fake accounts and be able to answer lawful authority requests.

Detailed legal basis (GDPR Art. 6, legitimate interest, performance of the service relationship, proportionality): GDPR — identity verification. In short under the Terms: not providing documents when legitimately required may block that function until verification is complete, without automatically cancelling a reader account for functions that do not require it.

You retain copyright in materials you create to the extent of the law (Romanian Law no. 8/1996 on copyright, as amended). By submitting or publishing on the Service, you grant RoAdevăr a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display, technically format, promote and archive the material within the platform’s editorial activity for as long as it remains on the site (and in reasonable technical archives).

You may request withdrawal; the newsroom assesses interest of the public, archive needs and law. Prohibited materials may be removed without notice.

Content published by the newsroom or under the RoAdevăr brand is protected. Short quotation with source credit is allowed within fair quotation rules. Full copying, commercial republication without consent or distorting out-of-context reuse is prohibited.

Third-party links are at your browsing risk; we do not control their policies.

RoAdevăr uses reasonable diligence for a safe, useful service but does not guarantee no technical errors or interruptions. Signed authors’ opinions remain theirs; the platform may moderate but does not automatically become the author. Within the law, liability for indirect damages, lost profits or data loss beyond our reasonable control is limited.

We do not exclude liability that cannot be excluded by law (e.g. fraud, gross negligence, bodily harm where the law so requires).

For breaches of the Terms, the law or editorial standards: warning, content removal, temporary restriction, suspension, account closure, technical blocks, reporting to authorities. Measures are proportionate. You may challenge via contact; we review in good faith.

These Terms are governed by Romanian law. Where relevant: Civil Code (Law no. 287/2009), e-commerce rules (Law no. 365/2002 as amended), Law no. 455/2001 on electronic signature (for simple electronic acts — not to be confused with an eIDAS qualified signature), GDPR and Law no. 190/2018, and Law no. 8/1996 on copyright. Disputes: competent courts in Romania unless special rules say otherwise.

We may update the Terms. The version published on the site binds from the publication date. For major changes affecting essential rights we reasonably notify registered users. Continued use after notice may constitute acceptance where the law allows; some actions will require a new tick.
