Amsterdam police said on Wednesday they are examining a building on De Klencke, in Buitenveldert, as the place where Hajar, 29, was probably killed. The statement treats her death as a crime but says the scene is not yet certain. Forensic officers were working there. That is not a conviction.

Hajar was reported missing on 4 October by a family member. On Friday 16 October she was found dead at Amsteldijk, in the water, in a suitcase. Police asked anyone who saw her around 4 October near the RAI convention centre or in Buitenveldert to come forward. The Wednesday notice did not publish a detailed medical cause of death.

On Tuesday a 23-year-old man with no fixed address and an indefinite residence permit was arrested. NOS, citing Het Parool, names him Abdi A. Officers found him at his foster parents’ home in the municipality of Koggenland after a call about an assault. An officer recognised him from a wanted notice issued that morning in the Hajar case.

The foster father was taken to hospital and is out of danger, the local mayor said. The Koggenland assault is a separate incident, described by witnesses; it is not the court proof of the Amsterdam death and it does not confirm a weapon. The suspect is in custody, may speak only to his lawyer and is due before a judge this week.

The press describes the Buitenveldert building as an antikraak property in a former school. Police have not said, in the statement, that the location is proved. What remains is a presumed scene, a detained suspect and a family waiting on the inquiry.

The police statement uses only the name Hajar. The initials Abdi A. come from the press. The court appearance announced for this week is a procedural step, not a finished trial.
