Sorin Costreie, the education minister, spoke on Wednesday evening, 21 October, on Digi24’s Jurnalul de Seară. He put an analysis of the school-directors contest on his mandate’s priority list. He did not announce cancellation of the contest.

He said the results and how the contest was run must be looked at before measures. First he wants to see whether the paper was held under legal conditions, especially because there are appeals. After that, he added, conclusions follow about what can be improved. Asked whether the contest will still take effect, he said yes, but after that check. That is his order. It is not a cancellation order.

On the subjects he said, for now, he draws no conclusions. He has seen them: logic, in places grammar, some mathematics. He asked for that to be taken as a personal view. He flagged the time allowed and the lack of scrap paper, though the paper said problems could be solved in one’s head or on a draft. Those are details, he said, that will be analysed: how they got there and what they did to the sitting. It is not a ruling on the paper’s legality.

Costreie also said the wish to become a director is getting smaller. The same salary, more responsibilities, only minimal relief from teaching hours. His long-term aim is a professionalised corps of directors and inspectors, plus more school autonomy. That is a direction stated on television, not a new staffing statute.

Mediafax reported the remarks at 21:47, after the programme. Headlines that close the contest close a step the minister did not take on Wednesday. The analysis is on the list. The appeals remain. The written paper was on Tuesday; the published calendar continues until someone changes it by act.

This article does not announce cancellation, does not announce that the subjects are illegal and does not announce that falling interest has emptied the posts. It is what Costreie said on Digi24: priority, a check, then measures.
