Paul Finta, prefect of Timiș County, announced his resignation on Wednesday, 21 October. The message is on Facebook. He has submitted his resignation; he has not been dismissed by a government decision published today, and no new prefect has been named in his place.
His reason, quoted by News.ro: it was a privilege to work for the people of Timiș; today he submitted his resignation as county prefect; he was put forward by USR, and USR has gone into opposition; he is leaving. The change of government is the setting in which USR moved into opposition, not a dismissal signed by the new cabinet.
Finta was appointed prefect on 18 June 2026, after Cornelia Elena Micicoi resigned. About four months have passed. That appointment is a government decision from the summer, not today’s event.
Radio Timișoara writes that Finta describes his term through the restitution of nationalised property, environmental complaints and applying the law “the same, for everyone”. He challenged a Timiș County Council decision and spoke of written threats about evicting the Prefect’s Institution from the Administrative Palace. That is his account, not a court finding and not an eviction already carried out.
Express de Banat notes that the decision was sent to the Government. Until a decision releasing him from office and until an appointment, what stands is the announcement: a resignation submitted, not a vacant post filled by someone else.
The closed fact is the resignation announced on 21 October, citing USR’s move into opposition. It is not a dismissal and not a successor already installed in Timiș.
