The Gen Z regelt initiative is calling young people onto the streets on Saturday, 31 October, from 2 p.m., in 21 German cities. Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne and Frankfurt are on their list. This is a call, not the 31 October protest itself.

On the site they ask for investment in education, health, climate and an affordable life, and they reject compulsory military service. They say they want a peaceful demonstration. Spiegel wrote that more than 10,000 people had pre-registered. Sign-up is not turnout. Conscription is a theme, not a law voted today.

A Federal Interior Ministry spokesman said there is a violence-ready extremist scene that can use such protests. Federal and state authorities are watching and talking to one another. That is a warning, not a ban. In Berlin the police still had, on Wednesday, no registered assembly, according to Tagesspiegel.

Co-organiser Akram Selo told dpa they distance themselves from any violence. The site shows Gen Z regelt organising five cities; the rest joined with local groups. Halloween falls the same night. Berlin police are preparing for that too. Preparation, not a tally of incidents.

France and Milan have seen street scenes. The German alliance rejects them, on paper. Those pictures are not the German protest of 31 October. Whoever turns out turns out next Saturday.

A call. The march has not started.
