General Motors released third-quarter 2026 results on 20 October. Revenue was $50.0 billion, up 2.9% from a year earlier. Net income attributable to stockholders was $3.3 billion. Adjusted EBIT was $4.1 billion, up 21.6%. Diluted adjusted EPS was $3.70, against $2.80 a year ago. Yahoo Finance and MarketWatch wrote that the figures cleared Street estimates. Beating a consensus is not a full-year result.
The board approved a new $20 billion multi-year share-repurchase authorization with no expiry. The $6 billion programme announced in January 2026 is finished. The new authorization can be suspended or stopped. It is not money already spent in the market. At 30 September GM had 849 million shares outstanding, down from 904 million at the end of 2025. The quarterly dividend stays $0.18 a share, payable on 17 December to holders of record on 4 December.
For full-year 2026 GM narrowed its profit ranges; it did not raise them. Adjusted EBIT is $14.5-15.5 billion, from $14-16 billion. Diluted adjusted EPS is $12.75-13.75, from $12-14. The midpoints are unchanged: $15 billion and $13.25. Yahoo noted that as much was cut from the top as from the bottom. Adjusted automotive free cash flow, by contrast, was lifted to $11.5-12.5 billion from $9.5-11.5 billion.
Mary Barra wrote to shareholders that the $20 billion programme shows the board’s commitment to share value and that the company wants to keep momentum “despite growing inflationary pressures”. GM now expects about $2 billion of commodity inflation, the top of its old range, including logistics and DRAM memory. Expected regulatory benefits were cut to about $500 million from as much as $750 million. Gross tariff costs are tracking toward the low end of a $2.5-3.5 billion range. Those are management expectations, not closed invoices.
Earlier this month GM had reported 670,974 vehicles sold in the United States in the third quarter, down 5.5%. EV sales fell about 62%, to under 4% of volume from more than 9% a year ago. Excluding EVs, volume was almost flat. Chevrolet Silverado light-duty pickups rose. Those US volume figures come from the sales report, not from today’s earnings release; they are not mixed in as if they were the new P&L headline.
MarketWatch wrote that the stock fell about 6.9% in pre-market trade even though the quarter beat estimates. That is a quote before the open, not the day’s close. The $20 billion authorization does not guarantee a set pace of buying and does not undo the narrower profit guide.
