A man in his 50s died on Sunday, 18 October, after a diving accident in Kristiansand. Police confirmed the death. The cause is not published. This is not a conviction and not a name. It is a confirmed death with the cause still unknown.
The alert came at 10.22. The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre ran the job. Police, firefighters, an ambulance, a rescue boat and a helicopter turned out. The place is Kuholmen, on Lund, near Kirkeboen. Operations chief Eyvind Formo wrote, an hour in, that the patient was ashore and flying by air ambulance. The first note named Ullevål. NRK later corrected that to Sørlandet Hospital. Two hours later the man was confirmed dead.
Fire-service divers brought him up on the second descent. Depth stopped them on the first. Incident commander Vigleik Fidje said on site they had no view of what had happened. He praised the crew. That is a rescue account, not a diagnosis.
Next of kin were told. Police interviewed witnesses and opened an examination file. After the weekend they will decide whether to take it further. An examination is not a charge.
KRS.no repeated the same times and the same Formo. TV2 spoke of drowning. The police bulletins stay at “cause unknown.” We do not take a mechanism the inquiry has not closed.
The man is not named. We do not publish guesses about kit or blame. Until a new bulletin, the facts are these: a dive on Sunday morning, a rescue, a confirmed death, a cause that is not yet written down.
