LASK won 3-2 at Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday, at Estádio José Alvalade, matchday three of the Champions League league phase. Their first win of this campaign, after 0-1 at AEK Athens and 3-6 at home to Liverpool. It is a result. It is not a place in the knockouts.

Der Standard: Luis Suárez, a fifth-minute penalty, after an Irankunda–Ljubičić contact; Scottish referee Nicholas Walsh pointed to the spot. Christoph Lang equalised in the 15th. Saša Kalajdžić in the 63rd, Kryštof Daněk in the 68th, after a Samuel Adeniran pass. Suárez again in the 89th. Goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth went off in the 52nd, after a clash with Suárez; Tobias Schützenauer came on. Dietmar Kühbauer: the penalty was “very harsh.” Kalajdžić: “it was not a penalty.” A complaint. The goal stood.

The same paper: the 89th-minute goal should have been ruled out by VAR, for a foul on Schöpf. The BBC credits Suárez, with no disallowing. Two readings. Attendance: the BBC, 48,985; Der Standard, “almost 50,000.” Two counts.

UEFA: LASK’s first Champions League win. The BBC: their first away win in Europe’s top competition, after eight straight away defeats in major cups. Sporting had come in with 3-1 over Galatasaray and 2-0 at Lens. Prior form. Not the knockout round.

Next, 3 November: LASK at home to Slovan Bratislava; Sporting against Shakhtar, at Stamford Bridge. A calendar. Not qualification.
