Students at Linköping University welded about 30 field stoves for Ukraine in the week ending Saturday 17 October 2026. The stoves are meant for civilians and soldiers where heat is scarce. The project is run by the student association M-verkstan.

The association’s instructors teach other students to weld. Chair Mårten Röing said they have a chance to contribute and that this is a good way to do it. According to the instructors, no prior skill is needed: after a few minutes of guidance, they work.

The need remains large, Röing said: requests keep coming from Ukraine for more stoves, and those already sent are used heavily. The association has built and shipped stoves for four years. Instructor Markella Evangelia Tzenaki said it is also a way to involve other students and to teach.

Local paper Corren visited the workshop in mid-October. The event is called “Svetsa Ukraina varmt” and is run with Väderstad AB, which supplies the material. Röing summer-worked at Väderstad, where he met designer Morgan Collin, whose drawings are used by small and large groups in Sweden to build stoves for Ukraine.

Collin visited campus and said the students are the company’s future colleagues. M-verkstan is a campus metal workshop open to students and university staff. The roughly 30 stoves are to be sent on to Ukraine; this article is not a donation appeal.
