Milan beat Atalanta 3-2 on Sunday 18 October at San Siro. Gonçalo Ramos opened from the spot in the 24th minute, Adrien Rabiot made it 2-0 in the 43rd, Mario Gila scored 3-0 in the 57th, his first in a Milan shirt. Gianluca Gaetano pulled one back in the 66th, Nikola Krstović in the 81st. Maignan saved from Zappacosta at the end. The club confirmed the score. Gazzetta described it at length. The mill trail, at la Repubblica, has little body; the facts rest on those two sources.
Milan’s coach is Ruben Amorim, not Maurizio Sarri. Sarri coaches Atalanta. The trail headline mixed the score with a remark from the visitor. In the press room Sarri spoke of a half-hour in which Atalanta penned Milan in and of a yellow card for Rabiot that he found light. We do not turn that into a quote we do not have in full.
The first half, Gazzetta writes, was Milan’s best of the season: press, width, quick recoveries. Kolašinac went off injured after 20 minutes; 20-year-old Obric made his debut. After 3-0 the hosts eased off. The visitors came into it late. A 3-3 was close; it did not come.
Milan reach, provisionally, 15 points and fourth place, pending other results, four points off the top. A European away game comes on Thursday, then Udinese. One match does not close the league. Gila told Sky these are games you have to win and that after 3-0 the side lost its shape.
Amorim changed seven starters from Salzburg. Rotation, Gazzetta writes, is not a slogan. Sarri patched absences as he could: Krstović ahead of Scamacca, Samardžić ahead of Zalewski. Squad choice belongs to the coaches, not to a law of the position.
The score is from Serie A, the round in progress. Three goals, two conceded, a nervous finish. That is all.
