On Sunday, 18 October 2026, Moldova's meteorology authority kept a yellow warning for heavy rain across the country from 18:00 until the same hour on Monday, 19 October. The midday notice speaks of 15 to 49 litres per square metre, either accumulated or falling in short bursts. It is a forecast with risk attached, not the tally of a flood that has already happened.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations took the map and asked people to treat the window as a time to postpone unnecessary travel. Rescuers said flooded stretches should not be crossed on foot or by car, because water depth is hard to judge from a driver's seat.

Parking under trees, beside billboards, poles or unstable structures is discouraged: wind and wet ground can bring them down. Windows and doors should be shut, and objects that water or wind could carry should be brought in. Drivers were told to leave more space in front.

The inspectorate also flagged a hazard that often appears after rain, not during it: downed power lines. They should not be touched. For any emergency the number remains 112.

In Chișinău on Sunday afternoon the temperature was around 13C, with high humidity. That does not mean the warning has expired. The yellow code covers 24 hours, and the meteorology authority said the message and the map would be updated if the weather changed.

The advice is public safety, not an announcement that rivers have already burst their banks. Following it lowers the risk; reading it as a catastrophe already under way mis-scales the event.
