The WTA confirmed on Wednesday, 21 October, that Karolina Muchova has taken the last singles place at the WTA Finals. The event runs from 8 to 15 November at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. This is a qualification, not a championship title.

The Czech qualifies for a second time. In 2023 she withdrew, injured. The singles field: Elena Rybakina, Aryna Sabalenka, Mirra Andreeva, Linda Noskova, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina and Muchova. Two groups of four, then semi-finals and a final. That is the format, not the result.

Her 2026 season, per the WTA: titles in Doha, on hard, and in Bad Homburg, on grass. A final in Stuttgart, on clay. A second Grand Slam final, at Wimbledon. AP writes that the last spot locked after Marta Kostyuk retired in Ningbo. Another match, another city.

In doubles Su-Wei Hsieh with Jelena Ostapenko and Ellen Perez with Demi Schuurs also got in. Hsieh-Ostapenko for a second time as a pair, last year’s semi-finalists; a 500 win in Brisbane, a 1000 final in Doha. Perez-Schuurs, first qualification as a team. One doubles place remains. None of this is a Finals title either.

Tournament director Garbiñe Muguruza spoke of Indian Wells as a stage, not of a winner. From 2027 the WTA Finals move to Charlotte. That is another edition.

Eight players on the list. The champion comes out in November, not today.
