Paul Mougenot entered the French Senate on 27 September 2026 with 329 votes, 19.15% of the poll, the third and last Aisne seat. He is 37, a farmer in Aguilcourt, the village mayor and a departmental councillor. The official Senate file, updated on 18 October, puts him on the economic-affairs committee and makes him delegate of the unattached senators. Le Monde titled the same day that admiration for Charles Maurras embarrasses both the right and the far right. The piece sits behind a paywall. The facts that hold without it come from L'Union, the Senate file and a 2007 issue of Action francaise.

In June 2007 Mougenot, then 18, signed in Action francaise 2000 the text "L'esprit d'AF continuera". He wrote of a royal restoration and quoted the Maurras-Bainville-Pujo line. On 4 September 2026 L'Union put the document into the Senate campaign. Within hours the departmental president, Pierre-Jean Verzelen, expelled him from a majority built against the RN. Mougenot still ran as miscellaneous right, "without a label", and took the seat from incumbent Pascale Gruny.

After the vote L'Aisne Nouvelle wrote that he sat with the unattached, after consulting Senate president Gerard Larcher. He did not join LR, nor the RN group. For a right that wants distance from Action francaise, he is an awkward colleague. For the far right he is an elected man who beat the RN in his canton in 2021 and does not owe them an endorsement.

The ground biography is that of a farmer on 185 hectares, elected in 2021 with Coralie Venet, an LR candidate at the 2022 legislatives with 11.35%, mayor since March 2026. He has no amendments to measure yet. He has a teenage article in a far-right archive and a mandate won after expulsion.

This report does not judge whether a 2007 text decides a 2026 man. It records that the document exists, that it led to expulsion, and that the departmental electors still sent him to the Palais du Luxembourg. The rest, including the "admirer" thesis in Le Monde's headline, stays in the article the paper still does not let readers finish.
