Pope Leo XIV left Rome’s Gemelli Hospital on Saturday afternoon, four days after lung surgery, the Holy See Press Office said. El Mundo wrote that the operation was for a pulmonary adenocarcinoma, citing the Vatican press office. He returned to the papal apartments and will lead Sunday’s Angelus from the window.
Doctors said blood tests, a Saturday-morning chest X-ray and his clinical condition allowed discharge, according to the Holy See. Vatican News named Luigi Carbone and Stefano Margaritora. Before leaving, the pope celebrated Mass in the chapel on Gemelli’s 10th floor.
He left to applause from people at the hospital gates, El Mundo reported. The Spanish paper described five days in hospital. Vatican News noted Tuesday’s surgery and Saturday afternoon’s discharge.
On Friday the pope spoke by phone with Russian president Vladimir Putin, El Mundo wrote. He raised the humanitarian situation in Oleshky, in the Kherson region, and asked for a ceasefire so aid could get through. He restated the Holy See’s commitment to dialogue and peace. That is a reported conversation, not a ceasefire deal.
The short 17 October Sala Stampa note mentions a right-lung operation, an afternoon departure and Sunday’s Angelus from the papal apartment window. The adenocarcinoma diagnosis appears in El Mundo’s report, not in that short bulletin.
RoAdevăr has no independent medical prognosis. Discharge means doctors judged him fit to leave hospital, not that treatment is finished. Sunday’s Angelus was announced; it had not yet been led at the time of Saturday’s reports.
