Rafael Jódar beat Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 6-4 in the Rolex Shanghai Masters semi-finals on Saturday and reached his first ATP Masters 1000 final. The ATP Tour confirmed the score. He will play fellow Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Sunday; Davidovich Fokina had beaten Alexander Zverev.
The 20-year-old from Leganés earned his second career Top-10 win, the ATP wrote. He struck 22 winners to 14 for world No. 6 Medvedev, the 2019 Shanghai champion. RTVE noted that after four matches in which he had come from a set down, this time he won in straight sets.
El País wrote that Jódar left for the locker room for a little over 10 minutes after the first set, then returned. He had three match points at 5-3 on Medvedev’s serve; the Russian delayed the end, but Jódar closed with a love game, RTVE reported.
Davidovich Fokina, the No. 25 seed, beat Zverev (1) 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, the ATP said. The final is the ninth all-Spanish Masters 1000 title match. It would be a first title at this level for either man. Jódar won his first tour trophy in Marrakech and reached the ATP 500 final in Washington in August.
El Mundo, the ledger source, headlined Jódar’s win and the all-Spanish final. Score and schedule details come from the ATP, RTVE and El País. Sunday’s match decides the title; neither man is champion yet.
The win also helps his Turin bid: the ATP had him ninth in the live race, the last qualifying spot, with Jannik Sinner out for the rest of 2026 with a knee injury. He was 279 points clear of 10th-placed Alex de Minaur. A title on Sunday could lift him into the Top 10, the ATP noted — a projection, not a ranking already published.
