At Skytteanska school in Tärnaby, the dog Vide helps pupils read with less pressure. SVT reported on Saturday, 17 October 2026, that the sessions are calm and ungraded: one pupil said they feel safe with Vide. Children’s names are not repeated here.
Three years ago Anna Bergström and Vide trained as a social service-dog team, after colleagues and reports of a reading crisis among young people in Sweden. Bergström said she sees children gain confidence when they read aloud to Vide, who makes a quiet setting without demands.
Vide meets children from preschool class to lower secondary, at different reading levels. Over the autumn break he is also at Storuman’s municipal library. The project “Läsfrämjande med hund” has, Bergström said, a grant from the Swedish Arts Council (Kulturrådet).
Storuman municipality described the same team in March 2026: Vide is a certified social service dog, trained mainly as a reading dog. The council quoted children saying the dog does not mind if they read wrong. That municipal note is an archive item about the same handler, not Saturday’s dispatch.
The scheme is a school and library project, not medical treatment or pedagogical advice. This article does not claim a dog solves reading difficulties; it reports how the school describes the sessions.
