Dan Reșitnec has been released, at his request, from the office of secretary-general of the Government, with the rank of minister. The decision, signed by Prime Minister Luca Niculescu, appeared on Wednesday, 21 October, in the Official Gazette. This is a release at request, not a dismissal.

The text, quoted by AGERPRES, says: “On the date this decision enters into force, Mr Dan Reșitnec is released, at his request, from the office of secretary-general of the Government, with the rank of minister.” News.ro adds that the act is countersigned by Reșitnec himself.

The duties are taken over by Petru Farago, deputy secretary-general, with the rank of secretary of state. He exercises the duties of secretary-general, with the rank of minister, until the head of the institution is appointed, under the law. He is not named as the holder; it is a takeover of duties until an appointment.

Reșitnec had been appointed on 27 April, in place of Radu Oprea, after PSD left government. Almost six months have passed. AGERPRES notes him as USR. The new head of the General Secretariat is not named in the decision.

At Wednesday’s USR press conference, Reșitnec spoke about transparency at RA-APPS, about protocol spending and about NRRP projects at the Secretariat. Those are his statements, not an assessment in the Official Gazette. We do not mix that with a dismissal.

The decision does not name a successor and it is not a sentence. Victoria Palace remains with a deputy holding the place, until an appointment under the law. A release at request, not a dismissal.
