Revolut has put Blik in its app. This is not Blik going live as a local method in Romanian shops, and it is not a rival that has replaced RoPay. Bancherul wrote on Saturday, 17 October 2026, what the button actually does: European customers, including those in Romania, can pay with Blik at Polish points of sale and in Polish online shops, instantly, without a card, for free. They can also take cash from Polish banks’ ATMs.
Blik, launched by Polish banks in 2015, uses a unique code for each payment. It has become the main online method in Poland. RoPay, in Romania, uses QR or NFC and a deep link, without that six-digit code. The comparison is of function, not of market: a Romanian Revolut user pays like a Pole when in Poland, not at the corner shop at home.
Headlines that announce “Blik in Romania, like RoPay” mix two files. BLIK Romania received a National Bank of Romania licence in 2024. Blik’s own site still says the app will appear in a customer’s bank after approvals. Bancherul notes that no Romanian bank has announced an integration. Revolut is not, for its part, on the list of banks that have adopted or are preparing RoPay.
Acceptance fees for Blik, as for RoPay, are presented as lower than Visa or Mastercard. That is a matter for Polish merchants, not a Romanian price list. It is not payment advice and not a prompt to open an account.
Profit.ro repeated the same in-app change on 19 October. The checkable fact stays geographic: Poland, POS and e-commerce, Polish ATMs. Anyone writing that Blik “has launched in Romania” is describing a two-year-old licence that local banks still do not use.
For a user in Bucharest the novelty is useful on a trip to Warsaw, not at the neighbourhood till. RoPay remains the Romanian banks’ project. Blik in Revolut is a bridge to Poland. The two have neither merged nor cancelled each other.
