A man drove a car through the entrance of Ronneby town hall in Blekinge on Friday evening, 16 October 2026. Police were called just after 20:00 about an agitated man trying to get into the building. Spokesperson Jakob Palmgren said he first knocked, then drove in.

The entrance was smashed. There is no information that anyone was injured, spokesperson Evelina Olsson said. SVT’s reporter on site said the car had gone through the security lock and stood about 50 metres inside the building.

Swedish police logged the incident as a “control” at 20:06. The driver was secured by police. Overnight updates listed the suspected offences as sabotage, gross negligence in traffic and drink-driving. The man, described by police as in his 40s, was detained during the night.

According to police, it was not the first time the man had tried to enter the building. An initial classification of aggravated criminal damage was changed to sabotage. These are charges and suspicions, not a conviction.

The detained person’s name is not published here: the investigation is open, and the presumption of innocence applies until a court judgment. Detention is not guilt.

Municipal director Bengt Nilsson spoke to SVT about how the town hall would operate on Monday. This article does not describe damage beyond what police and reporters on site have said.
