Siegfried Mureșan criticised, on Friday, 16 October 2026, in a Facebook post, the list of ministers PSD wants to send into Luca Niculescu’s proposed cabinet. The former prime minister-designate wrote that, for each of the 11 ministries the Social Democrats now seek, his team had proposed “much better ministers” two weeks earlier. The comparison is a political opinion, not an independent ranking of competence.
The post, carried by Mediafax and Express de Banat, sets names from the team that failed investiture against PSD nominees: among them Oana Gheorghiu versus Alexandru Rogobete, Cătălin Drulă versus Ștefan Ovidiu Popa, Tánczos Barna versus Florin Barbu, Raluca Turcan versus Florin Manole. The full pairing is in the public message; this account does not treat it as a map of portfolios already held.
Mureșan said his people were “prepared to continue reforms, cut waste, attract European funds and modernise the state”. His team, backed by PNL, USR and UDMR, did not get Parliament’s vote. Express de Banat notes the 30 September failure: 182 votes of 233 needed. Those figures describe a past vote, not the Niculescu cabinet’s.
“We know people want a better government. Unfortunately the current parliamentary majority wants something else,” he wrote. His conclusion: “Romania deserves a much better government than what is being proposed now.” For such a government, he added, elections must be won and a majority for modernisation formed. That is not an announcement of early elections and not a vote already held.
The Niculescu cabinet was not invested at the time of the post. PSD had announced entering government with 11 representatives; the prime minister-designate submitted the list and programme to Parliament on 15 October, according to reports. This account does not say who will pass the chamber vote.
Mureșan speaks as a liberal MEP and former prime minister-designate, not as a member of the new executive. The distinction matters: criticising the PSD list is not a motion of no confidence and not a decision of the PNL parliamentary group.
The discovery track is Express de Banat, which cites Mediafax. Quotes are checked against the agency report, not the local paraphrase.
