Mihăiță Constantin Tănăsoiu finished Saturday, 17 October, at the European Youth Weightlifting Championships in Durrës with three bronze medals in the 85-kilogram U23 class. He lifted 156 kilograms in the snatch after missing his first attempt, then 185 kilograms in the clean and jerk after failing 182 and 185. The total was 341 kilograms.

The clean and jerk kept the hall waiting. The first try, 182 kilograms, was not good. He asked for 185, missed again, then made the bar on the last attempt. Without that lift the total would have stayed off the podium. With it, bronze came in the snatch, the clean and jerk and the total.

Durrës is hosting the U20 and U23 Europeans. Romania sent 16 athletes: nine in U20 and seven in U23. After six days the tally was 16 medals: two gold, six silver and eight bronze. Tănăsoiu added three of those bronzes in a single session.

At least two Romanian names remained on the programme after this class. Andrei Cismănescu competes at 86 kilograms, U20. Rareș Tătaru goes at 95 kilograms, U23. Their results were not closed in Saturday evening reports.

Radio Cluj filed the session right after the podium. AGERPRES confirmed the same figures: 156, 185, 341 and the three third places. This is not a senior medal and not a European title. It is a youth result, in a named weight class, in a hall in Albania.

For Tănăsoiu the Durrës podium closes a U23 step; it does not by itself put him on the senior squad. The federation did not announce a call-up or an Olympic qualifier with the bronzes. Saturday's numbers remain those on the scoreboard: three medals, a 341-kilogram total, the 85-kilogram class.
