Two Ukrainian border guards crossed from Ukraine into Moldova on 15 October 2026, around 15:00, near the village of Holoșnița in Soroca district, during an operation to detain a Ukrainian citizen. The Border Police said they were in a motor boat. This account describes a border incident, not a conviction.

An intervention patrol took them at the scene and escorted them to the Cosăuți Border Police sector for the procedures provided by law. The case went to the Prosecutor’s Office, which opened a criminal investigation for illegal crossing of the state border. Radio Chișinău cites Article 361 of the Criminal Code; the inquiry is at the start, not a verdict.

The institution said the two men were processed under the law, within each body’s powers. It did not publish the guards’ names, did not announce a preventive measure and did not say what happened to the citizen the detention targeted.

The official remarks followed videos circulating of two Ukrainian servicemen who appeared to try to stop a man swimming the Dniester. According to those images, not independently confirmed here, the servicemen reached the right bank and clashed with Moldovan citizens. The Border Police urged calm and official sources, to avoid spreading unverified information.

Holoșnița sits on the Dniester, on the border with Ukraine. The boat crossing, in the police version, is tied to the detention, not to an announced armed attack. This account does not stretch the event into a wider military incident.

A criminal investigation for illegal border crossing is a Moldovan prosecutors’ classification. The two men’s status — witnesses, suspects, detainees — is not detailed in Friday–Saturday’s communication. That is not a conviction and not an announced prisoner swap with Ukraine.

The discovery track is Radio Chișinău. IPN carried the same Border Police facts.
