Former PNL president Valeriu Stoica told Digi24 that the government led by Luca Niculescu is an atypical formula: a “coalition” between PSD and President Nicușor Dan, not between the premier and the Social Democrats. In Stoica’s reading, Niculescu is the “instrument” of that alliance and depends on both partners.
Stoica estimates the cabinet could last until 2028, “unless Luca Niculescu resigns at some point,” without forecasting reasons. He says the arrangement did not appear “out of thin air” but has roots before the May no-confidence motion that toppled the Bolojan government.
In his analysis, the failure to “contain” AUR after the motion reflects mutual fears: PSD of Ilie Bolojan’s political capital and of reforms hitting budget- and EU-fund networks; Cotroceni of the liberal premier’s rising public support. Stoica also speaks of the president’s “complicit passivity” while the motion was prepared, a phrasing he distinguishes from active complicity.
The president later sought formulas that would block a PSD–AUR government, which Stoica casts as a “permanent invitation” to suspend the head of state. Those attributions remain political opinion, not official findings.
ProTV News / News.ro also carried the quotes on the “atypical coalition” and the premier’s role as instrument of the Cotroceni–PSD partnership.
