Border police at the Albița crossing detained, on 20 October at about 18:30, a 31-year-old man with dual Moldovan and Romanian citizenship. The Iași Territorial Inspectorate of the Border Police announced the case on 21 October. This is a detention at the frontier, not a new sentence from a Romanian court.

The man presented himself as a passenger in a car, to enter the country. At the check, officers found an alert issued by the Icelandic authorities for the execution of an arrest warrant. He has 12 years in prison to serve for drug trafficking committed on Icelandic territory.

He was handed to an operational team of the Vaslui County Police Inspectorate, “for the legal measures that apply”, the Border Police statement says. He is not named in the statement. This is not a conviction handed down in Vaslui or Iași on that day.

Monitorul de Vaslui repeated the same statement. Știripesurse, on an Agerpres wire, confirms the age, dual citizenship, Albița, the Icelandic alert and the handover to Vaslui police. The 12-year term is the Icelandic sentence to be served, not a case judged in Romania today.

Albița has had other frontier detentions in 2026, on warrants from other states. Tuesday’s case is not the June file linked to Belgium and not the August file linked to Russia. Nor is it the 16-year-and-ten-month sentence from the Iași Court of Appeal, also on 20 October, in a different drugs case.

The Icelandic warrant is an execution alert, not a trial opened in Bucharest. The handover to Vaslui police is the step after the check, not an extradition already completed and not a confirmed imprisonment in Iceland in this story.

Until a Romanian court or an official handover to Iceland is announced, the closed fact is the 18:30 check at Albița: a 31-year-old MD-RO citizen, detained on an Icelandic 12-year drug-trafficking warrant alert, handed to Vaslui county police.
