On 16 September Anthropic announced that it is combining Claude’s chat and Cowork features in a single interface and launching Claude Docs and Claude Slides in beta. The company is also folding Claude Design into the same experience. The change is meant to remove the need to pick the “right mode” by hand: the system is supposed to select capabilities according to the request.

Docs supports drafting and shared editing, with export to Google Docs, Microsoft Word, PDF or Markdown. Slides covers presentations, including PowerPoint or PDF download. The first versions target Pro and Max subscribers on web, desktop and mobile; Team and Free plans are to follow. Anthropic says there is nothing to switch on; users can also keep using ordinary chat.

The move fits a wider race: AI platforms are shifting from chat windows to workspaces that produce files. Reuters notes the parallel with similar unifications at rivals, in a contest for enterprise customers. Speed of production does not replace fact-checking, human editing or limits on sensitive data uploaded to an external service.

For newsrooms and teams, the practical risk is treating a generated document as a finished deliverable. Export to Word or PowerPoint eases the workflow, but responsibility stays with the person who signs the text.
