The Romanian Association of Online Stores (ARMO) said on 15 October 2026, National E-commerce Day, that Romania’s e-commerce sector is estimated at €13.5 billion in 2026. The figure is an estimate, not a year-end close. In 2025, online purchases of goods and services were worth €12.9 billion, 10% above the previous year, according to the association.

The data come from the European E-Commerce Report 2026, produced for Ecommerce Europe and EuroCommerce by the Centre for Market Insights at Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. The report covers goods and services bought online by consumers. Romania’s value rose from €6.1 billion in 2021 to €12.9 billion in 2025 — more than a doubling in four years, in ARMO’s reading.

The 10% advance in 2025 exceeded the 7% rise recorded at European level, according to the same cited report. In 2025, 95% of Romanians aged 16–74 used the internet, but only 60% shopped online; for 2026 the share of online shoppers in that age group is estimated at 65%. Estimates can be revised.

ARMO executive director Cristian Pelivan said the next stage of growth also depends on trust: knowing whom one buys from, how much one pays and what remedies exist when a problem appears. The association held a workshop with ANPC on online consumer-protection law and a good-practice guide. Mastercard is due to speak there about commerce mediated by artificial-intelligence agents — a forward-looking presentation, not a regulatory measure.

ARMO argues that rules on product safety, offer transparency and buyer rights should also apply to platforms and traders outside the EU that address Romanian consumers. That is an association position, not a new law.

The figures describe purchase value, not stores’ profit, and are not investment advice. This article records the ARMO statement, also carried by Bursa.
