Premier League champions Arsenal have been eliminated from the EFL League Cup (Carabao Cup) by fourth-tier Fleetwood Town. According to ABC News, the tie at Fleetwood’s Highbury Stadium finished 1-1 after 90 minutes, and the hosts won 5-3 on penalties.
Fleetwood, 18th in League Two and 84 places below Arsenal on the English pyramid, took the lead in the 21st minute through Aaron Loupalo-Bi. Viktor Gyökeres equalised in the 50th minute, but the Gunners could not find a winner despite dominating possession and chances.
In the 86th minute teenager Max Dowman was sent off. In the shoot-out Fleetwood scored all five attempts; Bruno Guimarães’s miss, saved by Jay Lynch, set up Conor Haughey for the decisive kick — one of the competition’s biggest recent upsets.
Play was halted for nearly eight minutes early on after the referee spotted a drone above the stadium. Arsenal’s official site and BBC Sport confirm the scoreline, the red card and the penalty miss; Fleetwood reach the quarter-finals for the first time.
Arsenal’s next match is in the Premier League, away to Liverpool. For Fleetwood the win is a landmark at home in front of about 5,000 fans.
The cup result does not change the Premier League table; it only ends Arsenal’s run in this League Cup. The sources consulted fix the score and sequence without inventing further squad details.
