New details have emerged in the probe of the sabotage attempt at the Carfil arms-factory industrial platform in Brașov: the suspects allegedly arrived days earlier to watch the site and pick the moment of attack, Digi24 reports, citing its own sources. The plan is said to have been prepared for some time; this article invents no charges beyond what the source states.
Romania’s intelligence service identified a sabotage network it describes as coordinated by Russian secret services, linked to the September attempt to set fire to Carfil. DIICOT is investigating three foreign nationals — one Ukrainian and two Belarusians — for attempted diversionary acts, according to Digi24.
Two Belarusian suspects were arrested in Germany; the Ukrainian national was detained in Warsaw on a European warrant issued by Romania. Digi24’s update names him Artem S., 25, citing TVP World; Polish police confirm the arrest on the Romanian warrant without detailing his concrete role in their statement.
A Warsaw court on Wednesday ordered seven days of pre-trial detention for the Ukrainian suspect. Artem S. said he does not agree to be handed over to Romania and asked for a lawyer, according to the Warsaw Regional Prosecutor’s Office cited by Digi24.
In Germany one suspect was heard and refused simplified surrender to Romania; authorities expect an extradition process that may take months, Digi24 says. Damage on the Brașov platform was estimated at half a million euros; the fire destroyed a hall adjoining Carfil’s premises.
