Sunday 18 October, in Oslo: the AUF congress — Labour’s youth wing — elected Fawzi Warsame, 28, from Sagene, as leader. NRK: unopposed. He takes over from Gaute Børstad Skjervø, who has led since 2024. This is not a change of government. It is not a national vote.
The hall: Samfunnssalen, Oslo Arbeidersamfunn. Adressa, via NTB: Warsame thanked the congress on its last day. In June, deputy leader Nimrah Ramzan (Akershus) left the leadership race and said she would not stand again. After that, he was the only name. The nominating committee put him forward in September. Jakob Vorren, its chair: a “hardtarbeidende og tydelig ideologisk” leader. The committee’s line, not a score of ours.
NRK: Warsame has been international lead on AUF’s central board, sits on Oslo city council, is a deputy to the Storting for Oslo Ap, trained as a lawyer and works as a trainee solicitor at EY. His father came from Somalia in 1991; his mother a few years later; he was born in Norway in 1998. That is the reported biography, not an ethnic portrait of ours.
In the speech, Adressa writes, he spoke of Frp at 30% in the polls: an alarm must go off in Labour. Then, to Sylvi Listhaug: AUF is ready for a fight; Frp’s days as Norway’s largest party are over. Applause in the hall. That is his Sunday message, not a ballot result. AUF, still NTB: more than 10,000 members, the country’s largest party-political youth organisation — their figure.
The board turns over in a bloc: three re-elected, eleven new. Secretary-general: Fabian Wahl Sandvold (Vestfold). Deputy leaders: Kristine Holden (Trøndelag) and Sandra Kalland Tenud (Vestland). NRK, in a profile: the first AUF leader in 16 years who is not of the “Utøya generation”. He: “Jeg tror det definitivt gjør meg til en annen leder. Men vi skal aldri tie og aldri glemme.” His line. We have not written that 22 July is closed.
Elected Sunday, unopposed. Two years at the top of AUF. Not the Storting. Not the government.
