Black History Month runs across the United Kingdom throughout October. The 2026 theme, announced by Black History Month UK, is “Honouring Our Communities”: recognising people whose everyday work sustains communities of African and Caribbean heritage — not a single celebrity roll-call.

Museums, libraries, schools, universities and community groups set their own programmes: exhibitions, archives, performances, tours, lectures. There is no single national calendar; each host fixes dates and access. October in the UK is not the February calendar used in the United States.

Historical coverage includes contributions and achievements, and also slavery, colonialism, migration — including the Windrush generation — and action against racism. There is no single story of Black Britain.

The 2026 resource pack mentions the exhibition “Honouring Black Britain 2026”. Presence in an education pack does not mean every school hosts it. Events are checked with the institution that announces them.

This account does not treat communities as one uniform bloc and does not invent a central parade in London.
