CMPC, the forestry arm of the Matte group, agreed on Wednesday to sell about 60,000 hectares in Chile’s Maule Region, through its Forestal Mininco subsidiary, to J.P. Morgan Natural Capital for $365.5 million. It disclosed the deal in a hecho esencial filed with the CMF. It is an agreement. It is not a confirmed land-registry closing. It is not approval of the Natureza project in Brazil.
La Tercera: mostly radiata pine plantations, about 5% of the firm’s forest land. A long-term timber supply contract, through Bosques San Pedro SpA, the buyer’s subsidiary. The earnings effect, the paper writes, falls between this year’s fourth quarter and the first of 2027. Finance vice-president Sebastián Moraga: part of the asset-management strategy announced late last year; a competitive process, a sharper focus on core businesses. A quote. Not a title deed.
Diario Financiero: the same hectares, the same sum. J.P. Morgan Asset Management’s forestry platform was called Campbell Global until September. The cartonboard mill in Maule stays supplied under the timber contract. The Clinic: effects within the next three months. Two wordings of an accounting calendar. Not the same sentence.
DF ties the sale to the corrugated business sold on 23 September, $420 million, to Smurfit Westrock — another file, with the FNE. And to Natureza, nearly $4.6 billion, in Brazil. Balance-sheet pressure. Not a green light for the Brazilian mill.
The Clinic: the buyer already manages forests in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Chile. Context. Not today’s cadastre.
