The European Week of Sport 2026 runs from 23 to 30 September. The European Commission campaign, under the message “#BeActive your way,” invites people to move in ways suited to their age, interests and abilities, not according to a single elite model.
Ireland is hosting the official opening ceremony. The event page lists representatives of the European Commission, the Irish Government and Sport Ireland, along with guests from the sporting world and local participants. Programme details are to be updated after the event; this article does not invent times, venues or speaker lists.
The initiative began in 2015 and returns each year in the same eight-day window. The emphasis is on walking, cycling, recreational activities and accessible forms of movement, including for people with different levels of fitness.
Events differ from one country to another. Registration, access and schedules are set locally. Anyone planning to take part should consult the campaign map and the national coordinator before travelling.
The Commission presents a European effort, not a championship. Participation statistics from earlier years, where they appear, are attributed to the organiser; conflicting figures on different pages are not mixed here.
For readers in Romania, the relevance is the European calendar and the everyday-movement message. An event in Ireland is not presented as a Romanian national programme.
