Eurostat published Wednesday the September fuel-price indices. Against August, Romania is among the smallest monthly rises in the EU: diesel +3.0%, petrol +4.2%. Only Spain (2.4%) and Croatia (2.5%) sit lower on diesel; on petrol, only Cyprus (3.8%). The EU averages: diesel +5.9%, petrol +6.7%. These are monthly figures. They are not a price cap. They are not a government decision.

Digi24, via News.ro, cites the same release. Over 12 months, fuels and lubricants for personal transport in Romania are +29.4% versus September 2025, after +26.7% in August versus August 2025. The EU 12-month average is +31.4%, after +16.9% in July and +23.8% in August. A small monthly rise does not cancel the annual advance.

Three countries passed 40% on the year: Bulgaria 42.2%, Estonia 40.6%, Lithuania 40.2%. Another 12 sit above 30%, from Czechia 37.5% to Portugal 30.3%. The smallest annual advances: Hungary 6.9%, Ireland 17.7%, Sweden 19.9%. Sweden still leads the monthly rises: diesel +12.8%, petrol +13.8%.

Diesel rose, August to September, in 26 states. Peaks: Latvia 10.3%, Poland 9.7%. Petrol likewise in 26 countries; Poland and Estonia follow Sweden. In August versus July, the EU average had been +8.3% on diesel and +3.3% on petrol. September reverses the weights: diesel slower, petrol faster. It is not a pump price. It is an index.

In August, Romania was among the largest monthly petrol rises. Now it is among the smallest. Two months, two rankings. The index is not the litre paid at a station. Nor a cap. Nor an ordinance.
