Călin Georgescu was heard on Wednesday, 21 October, at DIICOT’s Central Structure, in a new file. Prosecutors, together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate of the Romanian Police, executed two house-search warrants in the municipality of Bucharest. This is a hearing, not a conviction.

The Directorate’s statement does not name him. HotNews, citing Agerpres judicial sources, identifies the 64-year-old suspect, already a defendant in another DIICOT file, as Georgescu. A 35-year-old man is said to have scanned, on 26 September, at his request, the property in Mogoșoaia commune, Ilfov county. The result sought did not occur.

According to the investigation papers, the aim would have been to identify the audio-video technical means used by the judicial bodies and to alter computer data or disrupt the systems put in place for technical surveillance. The step came after the 21 September search at the same building, in a case where surveillance measures were already in force, circumstances the two suspects would have known.

The offences in the file are illegal operations with computer devices or programs, as perpetrator and as instigator, plus attempt to alter the integrity of computer data and to disrupt the functioning of computer systems. The statement says explicitly that the alteration, disruption or damage of the technical means did not take place, for reasons independent of the suspects’ will.

The 35-year-old was also heard at the Central Structure. Judicial sources told AGERPRES that his name is Vlad Alin Zamfir and that he was placed under judicial control, and that Georgescu was brought from the Central Arrest, where he was held in another file. That is not a verdict in today’s file and it does not merge the two cases.

HotNews writes that this is the fourth criminal file on Georgescu. Those under investigation benefit from the presumption of innocence. Today’s two warrants are in Bucharest, not a newly announced search of the Ilfov villa. This is not a conviction.
