From Monday 19 October at 9am until Thursday 22 October at 5pm, the Giurgiu-Ruse Friendship Bridge runs alternately on one lane. The right-hand lane is closed. Directions change about every 20 minutes, with flagmen. This is not a full border closure.
The second stage: Monday 26 October, 9am, until Thursday 29 October, 5pm, the left-hand lane closes. Same rhythm, same interval. Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is no work, Bulgarian border police said. Bad weather can move the dates. The capital repair of the bridge has a deadline of 3 December 2026.
The job, notified by the Bulgarian authorities through the Giurgiu Joint Contact Centre, is fitting water-drainage gear at expansion joints, on about 320 metres. The Giurgiu Territorial Border Police Inspectorate posted the notice on 14 October. Romania's foreign ministry issued a travel warning. BTA confirms the same hours.
A lane restriction is not a closed crossing. Waiting times may grow. Drivers are asked to plan and to follow the people directing traffic. The alternative is another crossing, not a detour invented here.
The bridge has two lanes on an old stretch. One lane taken for joints means one direction at a time. 20 minutes is the announced interval, not a promise about the queue.
Monday morning at 9am the first stage starts. The weekend stays open. Until 3 December the bridge is still a worksite, not a new span.
