Traffic on national road DN 12C between Gheorgheni and Lacu Roșu was blocked in both directions on Monday evening after several fir trees fell onto the carriageway, Harghita County’s Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (ISU) said. A fire crew from the Gheorgheni detachment was sent with an intervention vehicle to clear the trees.
Later the same evening, ISU Harghita confirmed the road had been cleared and traffic restored. “The carriageway has been cleared and traffic on DN 12C resumed,” the inspectorate said, according to Agerpres.
Firefighters also removed a fir that had fallen on the road toward the Piricske holiday-home area, about 15 km from Miercurea-Ciuc; traffic there resumed after the tree was cleared.
The forecast for Harghita County through Wednesday evening called for rain and mountain snow, plus wind gusts of up to 50 km/h — conditions that can bring trees down on mountain routes.
DN 12C links Gheorgheni with the Lacu Roșu / Bicaz Gorges corridor, used by residents and visitors alike. In similar incidents, ISU and road managers urge drivers to check CNAIR restrictions and National Meteorological Administration warnings before setting out on mountain roads.
