Ireland is preparing for Culture Night 2026, the 21st edition of Oíche Chultúir, on Friday, 18 September. The Arts Council, in partnership with local authorities and with support from the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport, describes it as a night of free cultural discovery in cities, towns and rural communities across the island.

The theme remains “One Night for All”: a shared, local evening with no charge for activities included in the programme. The culturenight.ie site asks visitors to search by county, town, genre, accessibility and start time, because hundreds of local programmes keep different hours. Some activities require booking.

The 2025 edition featured more than 1,800 free events, according to the Arts Council. For 2026 the Council again refers to hundreds of free events, with listings still being added in the run-up to 18 September.

The National Museum of Ireland is taking part at several sites. Collins Barracks in Dublin lists Friday hours from 16:00 to 20:00. At Kildare Street, free tours without booking are advertised at 17:00 (Viking Ireland) and 18:30 (highlights of the archaeology collection), with places allocated first come, first served. At Turlough Park, Castlebar, the museum will open late from 18:00 to 21:00.

At the National Gallery of Ireland, Friday’s programme runs from 16:00 to 23:00 throughout the building, with free admission. The gallery lists family activities, themed tours between 17:00 and 20:00, and Painting Mirrors, a digital project with the French Embassy in which portraits taken on the night are projected onto the façade, set to a DJ set.

Because the offer is nationwide, there is no single itinerary that works for everyone. The official calendar, not third-party pages, remains the source for the chosen town and venue.
