The mayor of Algeciras, Jose Ignacio Landaluce, said on Monday that he will leave office on Sunday, 25 October. Today he is still mayor. El Mundo carried his video. RTVE confirms the same date. This is not a conviction and not a handover of the town hall today.

Landaluce denies the facts attributed to him and says they are false. Two complaints of sexual assault sit behind the crisis, the press writes. He is summoned as a person under investigation, not as a convict. The presumption of innocence holds until a verdict.

He said the withdrawal of support and the motion of censure force him to resign, a decision forced by those circumstances, in his words. The PP asked him to go. Jacinto Munoz is due to take the mayoralty after the motion set for 28 October. A political timetable is not a verdict.

His last act as mayor, he said, is on 24 October: he hands the staff of office to Cristo de Medinaceli, then leaves the post on Sunday. El Mundo notes 15 years in the mayoralty. That is a record of office, not a sentence.

RTVE ties the announcement to the accusations. Europa Sur had written on 16 October that the Algeciras violence-against-women court called him to testify as a suspect on 23 October, on an admitted complaint. A summons is not a conviction.

Anyone writing that Landaluce has been found guilty or that he left the town hall today is writing past the announcement. The files remain open. The handover of power, he said, will be orderly, so as not to halt the council.
