Latvia’s armed forces reported a brief airspace violation on Sunday near the borders with Belarus and Russia and told local residents to stay indoors, G4Media / Mediafax / Reuters report.

The army wrote on X that there was a threat in the airspace and advised: if people see a low-flying or suspicious object, do not approach it. About 30 minutes later it said the unidentified object had left Latvian airspace and the alert was over.

Ukrainian military drones have previously strayed into Finnish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian airspace. As Ukraine strikes Russian oil ports on the Baltic, some drones have missed targets, prompting neighbour alerts; in Latvia such incidents contributed to the government’s fall earlier this year.

Moscow accuses Kyiv of using NATO airspace; Ukraine says some drones are diverted by Russian electronic jamming. NATO countries generally blame Russia for the context created by the invasion.
