On 20 December 2001, in Malino, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, representatives of the Muslim and Christian communities of Poso sign the Malino Declaration to end conflict and create peace in Poso. The meeting is chaired by the Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare, Jusuf Kalla. The Declaration comprises ten points.

Point 1 requires the cessation of all forms of conflict and dispute. Point 2 requires that all forms and efforts of law enforcement be abided by and that sanctions against anyone who breaks the law be supported. Point 3 demands that State authorities take firm and just steps to ensure security. Point 4, to ensure the creation of peace, rejects the imposition of civil emergency and foreign intervention.

Point 5 requires that false accusations and lies toward any side be dispelled and that respect and forgiveness toward each other be upheld in the pursuit of harmony. Point 6 states that the land of Poso is an integral part of Indonesia; therefore every citizen has the right to live, come and take residence in peace and must respect local customs. Point 7 requires that all rights and possessions be returned to the rightful owner as they were before the conflict and clashes.

Point 8 requires the return of all internally displaced persons to their original homes. Point 9 requires, along with the government, comprehensive rehabilitation of economic infrastructure and facilities. Point 10 requires that respective religious tenets be observed, mutually respecting each other, and that all agreed regulations be abided by, including laws, government regulations and other regulations.

For implementation a Commission on Security and Law Enforcement is established, focusing on disarmament, resettlement of displaced persons and law enforcement, and a Socio-Economic Commission, tasked with reconciliation, social and physical rehabilitation, return of displaced persons, living support and normalization of economic activity.

It is not the Malino II Accord on the Maluku conflict, concluded in February 2002. It is not a United Nations convention.
