The Men Elite individual time trial is also scheduled for Sunday, 20 September, on the opening day of the UCI Road World Championships in Montréal.

Competitors cover 39.2 kilometres on the same urban course prepared for the Women Elite category, with 220 metres of elevation gain.

The route combines faster stretches with technical areas: Old Montréal, the banks of the St Lawrence River, the Gilles Villeneuve Circuit — home of the Canadian Formula 1 Grand Prix — and Parc Jean-Drapeau, created for Expo 67.

In a time trial, pace must be calculated without help from teammates. Wind, equipment choice and cornering can create significant differences between evenly matched riders.

Intermediate times show how the battle is developing, but the title is decided only at the Avenue du Parc finish.

The 2026 championships mark the event’s return to the Canadian city after the 1974 edition. Organisers describe it as the largest sporting event staged in Montréal since the 1976 Summer Olympic Games.
