The Metropolitan Police have said they will investigate allegations that Reform UK broke electoral law relating to overseas donations, as part of a wider inquiry into the party’s funding.

Scotland Yard said it is investigating after Channel 4 broadcast the allegations following an undercover sting by reporters from Verbatim, who posed as a foreign donor seeking to fund Reform UK.

Two of Nigel Farage’s close advisers, Dan Jukes and James Orr, resigned after the footage showed them discussing ways to get around electoral law with the fake donor.

A Met spokesperson said that after the Channel 4 News broadcast on Thursday, 3 September, the force received a number of reports relating to donations and polling involving a political party. Detectives assessed the information and determined that there are potential offences requiring investigation, similar in nature to matters already under investigation by the Met’s special enquiry team relating to donations made to the same political party. Detectives are liaising with the Electoral Commission and the Crown Prosecution Service as inquiries progress.

The party denies wrongdoing, according to reporting on the case.
