Mona Agarwal won gold in the women's 10-metre air rifle standing SH1 event at the Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya. She scored 250.0 in the final. Avani Lekhara, also Indian, took silver with 249.6. The gap is 0.4 points. This is not a Paralympic gold and not the Olympics. It is a continental para event, on Monday, at the Aichi prefectural shooting gallery.

Lee Yunri of South Korea took bronze with 227.9. The two Indians were well clear of the rest. Sportstar, with PTI, says the contest went to the last of 24 shots: Mona 10.8, Avani 10.5. The Times of India gives the same final scores. Avani's Games record from Hangzhou, 249.6, is now Mona's, 250.0. Avani shot 249.6 again and stayed second.

In qualification Mona scored 629.1, a Games record, above China's Zhang Cuiping on 627.8. That was close to the world record of 629.4, shared by Lekhara and Slovakia's Veronika Vadovičová. Avani qualified on 626.4.

SH1 is the class in which the athlete supports the rifle without a stand, with impairment in the lower limbs. Mona, 38, had polio at nine months. In Hangzhou she finished sixth. At Paris 2024 she took Paralympic bronze. Avani, also from Jaipur, won Paralympic gold in Tokyo, gold in this event in Hangzhou, and silver today.

The Times of India and Sportstar describe a 1-2 for India on the first medal day. That opens India's account at this edition; it is not a new Paralympic palmarès. Mona said that when she was behind she stuck to the process: one shot, then the next. Her next event is 50 metres, three positions. That is a start list, not a second medal.

Monday's podium is gold and silver at 10 metres, SH1, women. The numbers remain 250.0, 249.6, 227.9. Until a result at the Los Angeles Paralympics, the Nagoya medals are Asian para titles, not Olympic ones.
