On Wednesday, 21 October 2026, NABU wrote on Telegram that detectives, under SAPO supervision, were searching the National Bank of Ukraine and the home of one of its employees. No one was detained. No one was notified of suspicion. The actions, the bureau said, are authorised. Other details are withheld to protect the secrecy of the investigation. A search is not a charge.
The NBU confirmed the actions and said the institution was working as usual. Explanations would come after the procedures end. This is not a shutdown of the central bank. Interfax carried NABU’s statement at 10:58.
MPs Oleksii Honcharenko and Yaroslav Zhelezniak wrote that the governor’s office, Andrii Pyshnyi’s, was being searched as well. BBC: NABU has not confirmed that. Ukrainska Pravda’s Mykhailo Tkach wrote that the actions were specifically in the governor’s office. An MP’s post and a reporter’s line are not a notice of suspicion. Pyshnyi has not commented, BBC writes.
Ukrainska Pravda, from sources, tied the action to Pyshnyi and to the Sense Bank / Vasyl Veselyi thread from the summer investigations. Former Sense board chair Şevki Acuner told a commission that Veselyi came on Pyshnyi’s recommendation. Pyshnyi denied any recommendation and any pressure on the board. The denial stands; it is not a verdict. NABU did not name, on Wednesday, the employee whose home was searched.
“Forest Gump” and “Femida” are August cases, not Wednesday’s sentence. No one is convicted by a search. No one is removed from office by a NABU Telegram post.
NABU is the investigative bureau; SAPO is the specialised prosecutor. Together they are not an indictment. “Notified of suspicion” is Ukraine’s formal notice, not a headline. On Wednesday NABU said it had not happened.
