From 21 October, Pakistan’s government has raised profit rates on several National Savings schemes, including those for pensioners, older savers and the families of martyrs. The Central Directorate of National Savings, CDNS, issued the schedule. A rate increase. Not a tax exemption. Dump Dawn.

Behbood, Pensioners’ Benefit accounts and Shuhada Family Welfare: 12.96%, from 12.72%. On 100,000 rupees, 1,080 a month, from 1,060. Regular Income: 12.12%, from 11.76%. On the same 100,000, 1,010 a month, from 980. Two grids. Two monthly sums. Do not mix them with 6,000 every six months.

Special Savings: 12% on the first five payments, from 11.6%. On 100,000, 6,000 every six months. The sixth payment: 6,400, at 12.8%. Defence certificates, cumulative return: six years, 88% from 86; seven, 113 from 109; eight, 142 from 136; nine, 176 from 168; ten, 215 from 205. Five maturities. It is not Behbood’s monthly rate.

Ordinary savings accounts stay at 10% a year. Dawn: withholding tax, 15% for filers, 30% for non-filers. Zakat where the rules say so. Fifteen and thirty are not an exemption. Pakistan Observer carried the same schedule, from today.

Sarwa Islamic Term: between 11.84% and 12.12%, by maturity. Sarwa Islamic Savings: 11.84%, from 11.33%. Three-month certificates: 11.12%, from 10.80%; up to 11.72% on longer tenors. Other products. Not Behbood.

Dump Dawn. The rewrite rests on Dawn and Pakistan Observer.
