On Wednesday, 21 October 2026, at about 5:45 a.m., a passenger bus overturned on the Indus Highway, in the Bangla Hidayat area, Rojhan tehsil, Rajanpur district. Rescue 1122, as Dawn reports it: it hit the divider. Ten dead — seven men, two women, a girl. Forty-four injured. No child’s name. An accident and a toll, not a sentence.
Of the injured, 38 were at Rajanpur DHQ Hospital; four, critical, were sent to Dera Ghazi Khan; two, seriously hurt, to Sheikh Zayed in Rahim Yar Khan. Ten ambulances, two rescue vehicles, 35 people, from Rajanpur, Jampur and Rojhan. Samaa gives 36 injured and the dead as 8–1–1. The two counts are not added together.
Rescue 1122: the bus was “reportedly” speeding. Samaa adds, as a possibility, that the driver fell asleep. A possibility is not an established cause. Samaa puts the route as Karachi–Dera Ghazi Khan and Sitara Pump beside Bangla Hidayat. Dawn does not give the route. They are not melted into one official itinerary.
Deputy Commissioner Imran Ranjha told Dawn a case would be registered against the driver, who fled, and the owner. “Would be” is not a case filed and not a conviction. Ranjha, the district police officer and the assistant commissioner reached the site. Presence is not a verdict.
Dawn mentions, separately, Monday’s crash on Bosan Road in Multan: five men in their 20s, a Corolla. Another day, another place. Rescue 1122’s average, 1,352 road incidents a day in Punjab, with about 14 deaths, is provincial context, not the Rojhan toll.
38 + 4 + 2 make 44, Dawn’s figure. Samaa splits it differently: 12 treated at the scene, 20 at THQ Rojhan, five at Sheikh Zayed. Two hospital schemes, the same road. Neither Dawn nor Samaa publishes the girl’s name.
