Romania posted the largest rise in average household electricity prices in Europe in the first half of 2026: 51.9%, including taxes and VAT, Europa FM reports citing European data in its piece.
Over the same period the EU average household electricity price fell 2.2% to €0.28/kWh, from €0.29/kWh in the corresponding period of 2025. The lowest rates are in Hungary (€0.11/kWh) and the highest in Ireland (€0.39/kWh). Denmark recorded a sharp drop in electricity prices, of 31.7%.
For household natural gas, Romania again leads the ranking for price increases, up 9.3%, followed by Croatia and Slovakia. In Bulgaria, gas prices fell 14.5%.
Europa FM notes that Romania’s household energy and gas rises put it atop European growth rankings for early 2026, even as the EU average electricity price edged down.
