Cristiano Ronaldo was given a 30-day suspension and a 255-euro fine on Monday by the Portuguese FA disciplinary council. The Irish Times reported it. The BBC confirmed it. This is not a ban from Al-Nassr and not a 30-match punishment.
The charge was upheld in full for leaving the national camp. Ronaldo, 41, walked out of Portugal's base in Copenhagen before the Denmark match after he was an unused substitute against Norway. He accused Jorge Jesus of twice breaking his word. Jesus denied any agreement but left the door open.
The Irish Times notes that the FPF statement did not say what the suspension covers or whether time already served would count. The BBC writes that it runs from the Denmark match, so 19 days are already served. On paper he will not miss November's games against Denmark and Wales, if he is called up. A call-up is not today's ruling.
Ronaldo asked to be punished in an October statement and apologised to team-mates and supporters. The council took into account remorse and sporting merit, the BBC writes. RTP cites article 160 of the regulations: the usual range was one to six months.
FPF president Pedro Proenca said the association wants him back once the matter is closed. That is a wish, not a summons. The captain wrote that he remains available after serving any punishment. This is not a retirement from the national team.
Anyone writing that Ronaldo has been sacked from the squad, will miss the World Cup or has been banned for 30 matches is writing past a 30-day federation suspension, part of which is already served.
