Bucharest’s Sector 6 City Hall plans to ease congestion in the west of the district and give drivers an alternative to Iuliu Maniu Boulevard, via a new exit toward the A1 motorway, Mayor Paul Moldovan announced, according to Digi24.

Drivers coming from Preciziei Street who want to reach the A1 currently have to turn around on Iuliu Maniu Boulevard — a manoeuvre that worsens traffic in an already crowded area.

The local authority proposes a new road beside the overpass over Bucharest’s beltway (DNCB), allowing a direct exit to the A1 without turning on Iuliu Maniu. Together with Chiajna commune, it also wants a link between Preciziei Street and the road near the belt railway, parallel to the DNCB.

According to the mayor, the project would mean a simpler exit to the A1, fewer manoeuvres that clog Iuliu Maniu, an alternative route for some drivers on Osiei and Roții streets, and better traffic distribution in western Bucharest.

The feasibility study is due for approval by the Sector 6 Local Council at its next meeting. Moldovan also mentioned continuing a bike-lane project on Preciziei, linking to Liniei Park and Iuliu Maniu.

“Our goal is simple: more travel options, more modes of traffic, fewer jams and easier access to the A1,” the mayor wrote on Facebook.
